Die Initiative Rodachtal e.V. ist ein seit dem Jahr 2001 bestehender Zusammenschluss von inzwischen fünf thüringischen (Eisfeld, Heldburg, Hildburghausen, Straufhain, Ummerstadt) und sechs bayerischen Gemeinden (Ahorn, Bad Rodach, Itzgrund, Seßlach, Untermerzbach, Weitramsdorf). Mitglied im über 50.000 einwohnerstarken Bündnis sind auch die Landkreise Coburg und Hildburghausen. Die Handlungsfelder der Kooperation sind breit gefächert und bündeln sich in einer gemeinsamen Geschäftsstelle, die im Baukompetenzzentrum in Ummerstadt angesiedelt ist. Neben dem Flächen- und Siedlungsmanagement, dem kulturellen und bürgerschaftlichen Bereich bildet der Tourismus von Beginn an einen wichtigen Schwerpunkt. Dazu kommen Projekte der Infrastruktur und des Bereichs Brauen und Backen. Das thüringischfränkische Bündnis hat das Büro IPU aus Erfurt mit dem Regionalmanagement betraut. Vorsitzende der kommunalen Gemeinschaft sind der erste Bürgermeister der Gemeinde Ahorn, Martin Finzel und die Bürgermeisterin der Stadt Ummerstadt, Christine Bardin. Die Initiative Rodachtal e.V. wurde im Jahr 2016 mit dem Bayerischen Staatspreis für die innovative ländliche Entwicklung ausgezeichnet.
